Terms of Service
These terms are an agreement between you and the developer, Karunanayake Handhagama Ralalage Vikum Priyasad Karunanayake (“CrowdUp”, “we”, “us”) for using the CrowdUp app and website. By creating an account or using CrowdUp, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
The short version
- You must be 18 or older, and the details on your profile must be real.
- CrowdUp only connects people. We don’t organise or check meetings, events or hosts, and you take part at your own responsibility.
- Ratings, reliability and credits come from real records. Trying to fake them gets accounts removed.
- Credits are rewards inside CrowdUp. They have no cash value.
- Premium is optional and renews automatically until you cancel in your app store. See the Subscription Terms.
1. Who can use CrowdUp
You must be at least 18 years old and able to agree to these terms. You can have one personal account. You can’t use CrowdUp if we’ve removed your account before, or if the law where you live doesn’t allow it.
2. Your account
- Use your real name and a photo of yourself. CrowdUp asks you to take or choose your own profile photo.
- You can sign in with your email address, with Google, or with Apple on iPhone. Use the same sign-in method each time so you reach the same account.
- Keep your sign-in details private. You’re responsible for what happens on your account.
- Tell us straight away at digitalappmarket@gmail.com if you think someone else is using your account.
3. Meetings and events
- Private meetings are for the people the host invites or gives the code to. They never appear in Discover or on profiles.
- Public events are listed in Discover and on the host’s profile for other members to find and join.
- Hosts are responsible for their meeting’s details being accurate: the time, the place or video link, and what the meeting is. Hosts should verify a meeting within 5 hours of its start and, for private meetings, mark attendance within 24 hours of verifying. Missed steps show on the host’s public record.
- Guests should answer honestly and let the host know if plans change. Declining is always fine and never affects your reliability.
- Meeting codes open one meeting and stop working when it ends. Only share a code with people the host would want there.
- Free plans have limits: 8 people per private meeting, 50 per public event, 3 hosted meetings a month and 1 exact map pin. Premium removes them. When a free host’s meeting is full, new people can join only if the host upgrades or someone drops out.
4. Meetings, events and your responsibility
CrowdUp is a digital app that helps people find each other and arrange meetings. We don’t organise, attend, supervise or check meetings ourselves, and we don’t run background checks on members. Ratings and records show how meetings went before; they are not a guarantee about anyone.
Please read this carefully
Because CrowdUp only connects people, we can’t personally confirm anything about a meeting, an event or the people involved. By hosting or joining a meeting, you understand and agree that:
- We can’t guarantee event or host details. Everything about a meeting, including who the host is, what the event is, where and when it happens, and whether it goes ahead as described, is provided by the host. We can’t verify it.
- We aren’t responsible for what happens before, during or after a meeting. This applies whether you host or attend, and includes travel to and from the meeting, anything that happens there, and anything that follows from it, such as injury, loss, damage, theft, disputes or costs.
- The responsibility is yours. You decide whether to host or join a meeting, and you’re fully responsible for that decision, your own safety, your belongings and how you behave.
- Arrangements are between members. Any plan, payment or agreement between a host and guests is between them. CrowdUp isn’t part of it.
To help you stay safe:
- Meet in public places, especially the first time.
- Tell someone you trust where you’re going.
- Leave if you feel unsafe, and contact local emergency services if you’re in danger.
- Report anyone who behaves badly to digitalappmarket@gmail.com.
5. Community rules
Don’t use CrowdUp to:
- harass, threaten, discriminate against or harm anyone;
- create fake meetings, or invite people under false pretences;
- spam people with invitations, or sell or advertise without permission;
- share content that is illegal, sexual, violent or hateful, or that you don’t have the right to share;
- pretend to be someone else, or use someone else’s photo;
- fake verifications, attendance or ratings, or use extra accounts to boost your reputation or credits;
- scrape, copy or reverse-engineer CrowdUp, or get around its limits or security.
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. We may remove content, limit features or close accounts that break these rules, and we may report illegal activity to the authorities.
Reporting and blocking
- You can report a member, a meeting or any content in the app, or by emailing digitalappmarket@gmail.com.
- You can block a member so they can no longer invite you or contact you through CrowdUp.
- We review reports within 24 hours. If content breaks these rules, we remove it and take action against the account that posted it.
- We check meeting details, names and photos automatically, using an AI service as explained in our Privacy Policy; you give permission for this when you create your account. Content that breaks these rules can be refused before it’s shown, and photos that fail the check are deleted straight away.
- Something reported by many members may be hidden while we review it.
- We may restrict an account that breaks these rules, for example so it can no longer post, upload photos or invite people, or we may close it.
- To protect members, CrowdUp limits how often some actions can be repeated, such as entering meeting codes, creating meetings or sending invitations.
6. Ratings and reputation
- Only guests who attended a verified meeting can rate it: on a private meeting, guests the host marked as attended; on a public event, members who said they were going.
- Each guest rates the host and the event once, on separate 1–5 star scales. Hosts can’t rate their own meetings.
- Hosts never rate guests as people. Reliability only records whether you attended private meetings you accepted.
- Rate honestly, based on the meeting. We may remove ratings that break these terms.
7. Credits and milestones
- Credits and milestones reward hosting and attending verified meetings. They are calculated by CrowdUp from meeting records, as explained in the app.
- Credits have no cash value. They can’t be bought, sold, transferred or exchanged for money.
- If a meeting is deleted, or found to break these terms, the credits from it are removed.
- We may change how credits and milestones work. We’ll explain changes in the app.
8. Premium subscriptions
- Premium is an optional subscription bought through Google Play, or the App Store on iPhone. The plans are weekly and every 3 months, at the prices shown in the app for your country.
- New subscribers get a 3-day free trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you are charged.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. You can cancel any time in your Google Play or App Store subscriptions; Premium stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
- Payments, refunds and billing are handled by Google Play or Apple under their terms.
- When Premium ends, free plan limits apply again. Meetings already created stay, but you can’t add guests beyond the free limit.
The full details, including prices, the free trial, auto-renewal, cancellation and refunds, are in our Subscription Terms, which are part of these terms.
9. Your content
You own what you post: your photos, meeting details and descriptions. You give CrowdUp a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and share that content only as needed to run CrowdUp and as you’ve chosen (for example, showing your public events in Discover). This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where others already received it as part of a meeting.
CrowdUp’s name, logo, app and website belong to us. Don’t use them without our permission.
Your licence to use CrowdUp: we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the CrowdUp app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in line with these terms and the rules of the app store you downloaded it from.
10. Ending your account
You can stop using CrowdUp at any time and delete your account in the app under Profile → Settings → Delete my account, or as explained on our account deletion page. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a Premium subscription: cancel that in Google Play, or in the App Store on iPhone. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms or the law, or to protect other members. Where it’s safe to do so, we’ll tell you why.
11. Disclaimers and liability
CrowdUp is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will always be available, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose, and we are not responsible for the conduct of members or for what happens before, during or after any meeting or event. Hosts and guests take part entirely at their own risk, as explained in section 4.
To the extent the law allows, CrowdUp is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for Premium in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50 if more. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
12. If you downloaded CrowdUp from the App Store
If you use CrowdUp on an Apple device, these extra terms also apply:
- These terms are between you and the developer of CrowdUp only, not with Apple Inc. (“Apple”). We, not Apple, are solely responsible for CrowdUp and its content.
- Your licence to use CrowdUp is limited to Apple-branded products you own or control, as allowed by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- We are solely responsible for providing maintenance and support for CrowdUp. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support.
- If CrowdUp fails to meet any warranty that applies by law, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for CrowdUp.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims about CrowdUp, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- If anyone claims that CrowdUp or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must also follow any third-party terms that apply when using CrowdUp, such as your mobile network’s terms.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
13. General
- Changes: we may update these terms. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect. Using CrowdUp after that means you accept the new terms.
- Law: these terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, except where your local consumer law gives you more protection.
- Whole agreement: these terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and CrowdUp about using it. If part of them can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
